Bill Robertie has been recognized as a true contributor to Backgammon, the game of luck and skill. He is an all time famous backgammon player and has won the most prestigious title; 'World Champion of Backgammon'. He belongs to the rare community as he has won the title at Monte Carlo twice, once in 1983 and again in 1987. Bill also won the Pro-Am at Bahamas in the year 1993. The Istanbul World Cup has further added a feather to his cap of honor in 1994.

Perhaps all Backgammon players have a background of mastering other table games like Cards and Chess. Robertie is a former winner of the famous U.S. Speed Chess. He has been recognized as a chess master and his experience and expertise have been nicely portrayed in his book, 'Beginning of Chess Play'. His dual endeavors have given him the crown of 'Guru' and his simultaneous success in both chess and backgammon had given him the opportunity to travel around the globe, sometimes as a player and at times, to impart his vast playing skills by teaching.

The contribution of Bill Robertie has never been restrained to his personal success as a player, but he will always remain amongst the cherished backgammon players for his various books and articles, where he has tried to reveal complicated strategic situations and analytical solutions to turn a game on its head at any point in time. Robertie has been one of the first to compare backgammon as an 'empirical science'.

Upon browsing his book 'Backgammon for Serious Players', the description of some exciting situations in games is revealed entailing details from games played by the real professionals.

Bill Robertie is marked as the aggressive player. It is said that Robertie had to throw a double on his last roll to win, perhaps leading him to emphasize on doubling to bring the flavor of dynamism in each game he had preached. He has explained the doubling and the situation for doubling in most of his books, and has also explained his aggressiveness. He prefers his style to be called 'dynamic backgammon'. He has always tried to cater to the needs of a beginner as well as that of experts. He begins with how to set up the board in his famous book 'Backgammon for Winners' slowly taking the user through various complicated situations providing analytical solutions. The explanation with the help of diagrams has made the book much easier to understand.

Some of his books have become world famous, such as 'Backgammon for Serious Players', 'Backgammon for Winners', '501 essential Backgammon Problems', and Bill Robertie's 'Inside Secrets for Dynamic Championship Level Play' to name a few. Besides writing books, he has also been co-editor of the magazine 'Inside Backgammon'.
